Hurricane Irene Update 5

It’s some time between eleven and noon in Marsh Harbor.  The winds calmed earlier in the night, and the Sea of Abaco is shining turquoise again.

Our walk through the Marsh Harbor waterfront revealed little damage.  Only one  power line down, some board fencing down, and a few signs down.  There doesn’t appear to have been any surge.  No docks have been damaged at any marinas, that we could see.  Three sailboats that were anchored out in the harbor during the storm broke their holding and washed up on the southern shore.  Those must have been the only sailboats that tried to ride it out on the hook, there were no other sailboats in the harbor this morning.   Some dinghies in the Moorings marina caught the wind and ended up five hundred yards downshore.

Telephone service was down this morning, and the airport may only be accepting private or charter flights today.   Our American Airlines flight was rescheduled to tomorrow, Saturday the 27th.

Can’t thank you enough for the updates Colin. Glad to hear everything seems to be alright for the most part. My family and I have been vacationing in MH for decades and have made many friends along the way. With the telephone lines down we havent heard much, but your updates have provided much needed relief. Thank you my friend.
